‘Green Leaf Standard’
CES Ecology has worked in conjunction with Bovis Homes Northern Region to design a strategy to accommodate legally-protected wildlife within a large residential development in Nantwich. Species included great crested newts, badgers, water voles, lesser silver water beetles, barn owls and a rare species of aquatic snail. This involved the licensed translocation of protected species from the developable area, the creation of a new badger sett, the digging of several new ponds, tree planting and hedgerow restoration. Working closely with the developer’s landscape architect, CES helped Bovis Homes achieve the Green Leaf Standard for their development. |

‘Green Apple Environment Award’
CES Ecology was commissioned by Staffordshire County Council to design a scheme to translocate a population of great crested newts to a new site to make way for an extension to a successful business park. CES installed over 10km of amphibian fencing and 1,000 pitfall traps to clear amphibians from the site. The animals were relocated to a nearby country park, where CES had designed and created a purpose-built replacement habitat. Staffordshire County Council later won ‘National Gold’ in the Conservation category at the annual Green Apple Environment Awards for this project. |

‘Best Environmental Project of the Year Award’
The creation of this golf course was not without problems when great crested newts were found to be present on the former parkland site. CES Ecology was able to quickly resolve the situation and worked closely with the course owners and designers to accommodate the newts without disruption to the course layout. So successful was the scheme that the new course was honoured with an award for ‘The best environmental project of the year’ by Oswestry Civic Society. |
